DRE Creative Curriculum (Kindergarten / Primary School)

Kindergarten Project (KLCC)

The DRE Creative Curriculum is focused on systematically improving the overall teaching quality in kindergartens. Under our curriculum syllabus, teaching plans and teacher training, children will take the initiative, learning in action, to develop creativity, communication, collaboration, critical thinking and problem solving. This is a play-based enquiry learning model. Early Years teachers can enhance their research and questioning skills while developing a playful and fun approach to teaching, while cultivating creative thinking and reflection in children, to become excellent educators.

The DRE KLCC supports The National Medium and Long-term Education Reform and Development Plan Outline (2010-2020) and The State Council on the Current Development of Preschool Education Several Opinions (Countries [2010] No. 41) guidance for 3-6 years old children learning and development. At the same time, it is not limited to the teaching objectives of The Outline and The Opinions, but developed around a theme, problem, process, experience or topic. This important breakthrough in integrated teaching, lies in placing teaching objectives within a specific framework. The KLCC uses the framework of an original story commissioned by DRE specifically for the creative curriculum. Over 20 weeks of teaching plans are structured around the story framework, but the objective of each lesson is set according to the children’s developmental needs —— Language, visual literacy, motor skills, social and emotional skills, sensory perception, especially artistic skills, can be developed simultaneously. Learning is holistic, while responding to different learning needs and transforming different language and learning objectives, which in turn are integrated into one theme/story.

Training materials & Training include a:

  • Picture book —— Centered around original stories for Chinese children, illustrated by the leading UK artist-educator Ceri Townsend, using photo-collage created with photographs taken by her in China. The art work does not simply illustrate the text but creates a gap between image and language for meaning making that stimulates childrens’ learning in different ways.
  • Student book —— Children will complete their own interpretation of the story, stimulated by the gaps between image and text in the picture book, according to their own understandings. The student book helps children articulate their understanding through painting; this book is also suitable for parent-child reading.
  • Teacher’s book —— This systematically introduces the main teaching method - Drama in Education - applied to many aspects of The Outline, and further developing a planning method that integrates the curriculum. This includes an example of semester planning for all pre-primary children (aged 3-4,4-5,5-6); standard planning for achieving early years education objectives, and the application of teaching plans and the use of objects.
  • Object —— each story has a central object. This object is used to help teachers understand subject-object theory and intersubjectivity and assist teachers in guiding the course based on the use of observation.
  • 4-day Training Program for each KLCC project

Language: Chinese / English optional

KLCC training can be customized for kindergartens or early year organizations. For details, please consult with Ms. Hongyu +86 15810058533 about training.

Primary School Project (PLCC)

Each PLCC project is based on an original new story commissioned specifically for the PLCC by DRE, broken into 24-36 sessions. Teaching materials include a Teacher’s Book, and a Parents’ Manual. The PLCC is an integrated course, using drama as the teaching method. The course is children-centered with an emphasis on process learning.

Story and drama perfectly carry the scaffolding function of interdisciplinary and integrated learning. Stories stimulate our imagination, intellect, and emotion, while providing an external reference for our inner experience.

Our experience of reading stories comes from many different sources. When we talk to each other, we are actually telling a story; television and media expose us to different stories; nursery rhymes, fairy tales, folktales are an essential part of childhood experience. While story is centred around language, it also provides a very good vehicle for emotional intelligence, cultural understanding, and the development of multiple disciplines, especially social development.

Training materials & Training include a:

  • Teacher’s book —— with complete syllabus and accompanying teaching plans to assist teachers in clearly understanding the objectives of the course and to ensure consistency and depth of teaching content.
  • Parents’ Manual —— to help parents understand what their children are working on, and to better support their childrens’ learning at home.
  • 4-days Training Program for each PLCC project

Language: Chinese / English optional

PLCC training is open enrollment and can also be customized for primary schools, and art education organizations. For details, please consult with Ms. Hongyu +86 15810058533 about training.
